The EU Executive Committee recommended to the Council of the European Union on December 2, 2009 that the EU should continue to impose anti-dumping duties on leather shoes imported from the mainland for 15 months. The EU Council of Ministers subsequently decided on the 22nd to extend the period of anti-dumping duties on leather shoes in mainland China for a period of 15 months starting from January 2010. This decision also applies to leather shoes imported from Vietnam.
In the period from 1995 to 2005, the EU imposed a quota limit of 10 years on certain footwear in the mainland. In 2005, the European Union launched an anti-dumping investigation on leather shoes on the mainland, and on October 5, 2006, the final decision was made to impose anti-dumping duties for two years with a tax rate of 16.5%.
